The Miracles Happening Now

Remorse saves nothing

I am about to perform a miracle.

Come, share with me a sacred moment. Let the world grow still around us, for I must speak to you of things that have never been spoken, truths that wait in the quiet, miracles that dance in the very air we breathe.

Tonight I gazed upon the newest window we have opened to the heavens, that great eye we have turned toward the infinite darkness. And what visions it has brought us! Millions upon millions of suns scattered like golden seeds across eternity. Billions of worlds spinning their primordial songs in the cosmic dance. Numbers so vast they dissolve meaning itself, quantities that make mathematics weep and fall silent before immensity.

I understand the impulse that seizes our heart when confronted with such vastness, to feel small, to shrink, to whisper of our insignificance in the face of such overwhelming grandeur.

But I tell you, who reads these words, I feel none of that smallness. Instead I feel... vast.

Infinite.

Special beyond all comprehension.

This is the first miracle that unfolds between us now

Across this ocean of space and time, across light-years that would take lifetimes to traverse, I am reaching you. The same energy that births those distant suns, the same nuclear fire that forges worlds, the same cosmic breath that expands the universe itself, this very energy flows through these frail fingers, obeys my will, bends to my intention. I close my eyes, lean back my head, and command the forces of creation to carry my words to you.

My fingers dance upon keys, and electrons leap into motion. Light races through cables of glass, bounces from satellites spinning in the void, transforms itself into patterns of meaning that will soon enter your consciousness. The same energy that ignites supernovas now carries the whispered secrets of my soul to yours.

But the miracle deepens, grows more wondrous still. For that physical energy, those photons striking your retina, those electrical impulses racing along your neural pathways, somehow transcends the physical plane. Somehow, mysteriously, it becomes something else entirely. Something that has no weight, no dimension, no physical properties we can measure or contain.

We touch. Not with hands, or do we? We do not know. Perhaps we cannot know. Is it my finger pressing this key, or is it my essence reaching across the void to touch yours? Does it matter how the miracle unfolds, when the result leaves us both changed?

You will feel something now, dear reader. It may be awe that lifts your spirit. It may be skepticism that furrows your brow. It may be laughter bubbling up from some deep well of joy, or tears gathering at the corners of your eyes. It matters not what you feel, only that you do. Only that these words, born in the fire of one heart, can kindle flame in another.

There is science to explain this, yes, neurons and synapses, chemistry and electricity. But friends, is not the very existence of that science itself a miracle? That we can trace the pathways of wonder, chart the territories of emotion, explain the mechanics of meaning... and still be moved to tears by a sunset? Still fall to our knees before beauty? Still reach across the darkness to touch another soul?

This brings me to the third miracle, the one that staggers me most of all.

I am.

These words seem so simple, so commonplace, that we speak them without wonder. But tonight, gazing upon those photographs of distant worlds, I cannot speak them casually. I cannot take them for granted. For what are the odds? What are the impossible, incalculable odds that I should exist at all?

I am forged of the same stellar fire that burns in those distant suns. My atoms were born in the hearts of dying stars, scattered across the void in their final, brilliant exhalations. The iron in my blood was hammered into existence in stellar anvils. The calcium in my bones was born in cosmic furnaces. The carbon that forms every molecule in my body was crafted in nuclear cauldrons so hot they defy imagination.

I am made of stars, as are you. We are the universe contemplating itself, consciousness emerging from unconsciousness, meaning arising from matter, love blooming from a void.

I am.

In this moment, in this chair, with these thoughts flowering in the garden of my mind, with this inexplicable urge to reach across space and time to touch your heart with mine.

I exist.

I breathe.

I think.

I feel.

I am.

And you, mysterious you, you are. You read these words. You process their meaning. Somewhere in your consciousness, recognition dawns. Understanding blossoms. You feel the truth that needs no proof, the knowing that requires no evidence. You simply know, as I know, that something profound passes between us in this moment.

Each of us is a singularity in this vast equation of existence. Eight billion humans walking this small blue planet, each carrying within themselves an entire universe of thoughts, dreams, fears, and hopes. At any given moment, we are scattered across the globe, living different lives, speaking different languages, dreaming different dreams.

Yet for this sacred instant, you and I converge. Our paths cross in the realm of meaning. I write, you read. I reach, you receive. We join our consciousness across whatever distance separates us, and in that joining, we create something new. A moment of connection. A bridge of understanding.

A small but perfect miracle.

And then we will spin apart again, as celestial bodies do, each continuing our separate orbits through space and time. But we will carry something of this moment with us, this brief touching of souls, this reminder that we are not alone in the vastness.

I am staggered by this truth.

We stand within this universe as though we were separate from it, as though we were visitors in a foreign land. But we are not separate. We are not visitors. We are the universe. We are its children, its creation, its way of knowing itself.

The matter that comprises the galaxies comprises us. The energy that drives the cosmic expansion drives our hearts. The laws that govern the dance of planets govern the dance of our atoms. We do not inhabit the universe, we are the universe, temporarily arranged in patterns of extraordinary complexity and beauty.

Here I sit, within it all, creating these words. Arranging symbols into meaning. Birthing thoughts that have never existed before in the history of existence. Is this not another miracle? That matter can organize itself into consciousness? That atoms can contemplate atoms? That the universe can wake up and know itself through eyes like ours?

I do not wish to label what this makes me. I do not seek titles or definitions for this mystery. I only know that I was awakened at one in the morning with these words burning in my chest, demanding to be born, insisting to be shared.

Why?

I do not know. It does not matter. What matters is this.

I am. You are. We are miracles walking around pretending to be ordinary.

We act so insignificant in a universe designed for the magnificent. We whisper when we were born to sing. We hide our light when we are made of the same fire that lights galaxies.

Maybe that is our first error, the original sin. To imagine that we inhabit space rather than recognizing that we are space, temporarily conscious of itself. My atoms reach out and touch yours across the void. The electrons in my brain resonate with the electromagnetic field that encompasses all things. I am connected to every other particle in existence by invisible threads of force and energy.

A trillion tiny stars compressed into this form that types these words. A trillion tiny stars arranged in patterns of unprecedented complexity, creating thoughts, feelings, dreams, and the inexplicable urge to reach across the darkness to remind another arrangement of star-stuff that they, too, are miraculous beyond measure.

Do I touch the divine in these moments? Am I the divine, temporarily forgetting my true nature? Both, perhaps. In part. And what does it matter? For even as you read this, you know. You know, with a knowing that bypasses thought, that transcends logic, that requires no proof because it is its own evidence.

There is something there. Something in the space between us. Something in the recognition that ignires when consciousness meets consciousness. Something in that inexplicable feeling of connection that needs no explanation because it explains itself simply by being.

I am the created and the creator. The observer and the observed. The question and the answer. Here, now, speaking not to thousands but to you. Only you. You know this as you read, feel it in your bones, sense it in the quickening of your heart. Through billions of years of cosmic evolution, through the birth and death of countless stars, through the slow dance of galaxies and the patient formation of planets, through the mysterious emergence of life and the even more mysterious flowering of consciousness, through all of this vast preparation, we arrive at this precise moment.

Two arrangements of star birthed matter sharing meaning across space and time. Two temporary configurations of cosmic energy recognizing themselves in each other. Two fleeting expressions of the infinite, acknowledging the miracle of their own existence.

And if I have a message for you, dear soul, it is simply this.

You are vast. You are miraculous.

You are an irreplaceable expression of the creative force that drives all existence. You are made of elements forged in stellar fires, animated by energy as old as time itself, blessed with consciousness that allows you to contemplate your own miracle.

You are not separate from creation, you are creation, temporarily arranged in a pattern so beautiful, so complex, so utterly unique that it will never be repeated in all the vast expanses of space and time.

How can this be denied? How can we look upon ourselves with anything less than wonder? How can we greet each day without falling to our knees in gratitude for the impossible gift of existence?

I am.

And yes, gloriously, magnificently, miraculously, so are you.

In this moment, reading these words, feeling whatever it is you feel, knowing whatever it is you know, you are the universe coming to know itself. You are infinity compressed into form. You are the eternal expressing itself in time.

You are a miracle that needed fourteen billion years of cosmic evolution to become possible. And here you are.

I am.

You are.

We are.

All of us miracles, pretending to be ordinary, when ordinary is the one thing we have never been, can never be, will never be.

Look up at the stars tonight, beloved reader, and remember: you are made of the same light that shines there. You are not beneath them, you are among them. You are not separate from them, you are one with them.

You are the cosmos, awakened, aware, and absolutely, undeniably, eternally magnificent.

I am.

And so, my dear friend, so beautifully, so impossibly, so perfectly, are you.
