Unstoried

They came with questions, but none of them were new.

They asked where I had bled, but not how I had learned to stop the bleeding. They asked what I had lost, but never what I had learned to carry.

They called me strong, as if endurance were a crown and not the last refuge of the weary.

They came to make meaning of my silence. But I did not speak.

Because not everything endures to be explained. Some things remain simply because they were forged in stillness.

And I— I am one of them.

They came not to listen, but to make me easier to carry.

They came with titles already chosen, chapters etched before I spoke. They did not see me. They saw what I could teach them about suffering without cost.

And I, I was meant to bleed with grace. To offer my life as a parable, as if pain were a language, and I had been born fluent.

But not everything broken wishes to be studied. Not every wound is a window.

That night, I closed the book before they could write it.

They mistook my silence for mystery. But there is no mystery in choosing not to be known. Only self-respect.

There is a difference between privacy and erasure. I gave them nothing, and they called me unkind.

But I had given too much for too long. And they had thanked me with echoes.

On the night I refused to be a story, I did not rise. I did not perform. I did not explain.

I simply remained.

And that was enough to shake the air.

Because we live in a world that does not know what to do with a man who refuses to make a spectacle of his survival.

They said, “Give us the moment you were undone. We will call it beauty.”

I said, “I was not undone. I was rebuilt without permission. And it was not beautiful.”

They said, “Tell us about your healing.”

I said, “The way I brought my soul home is not for you to know.”

Some truths are not made for sharing. Some silences are not wounds, but altars.

And some men do not become stories they become the fire that burns the book.

I am not a chapter. I am not an arc. I am not your metaphor.

I am the voice you forgot to listen to before you began to write.

And I do not owe you a single word more.
